Tadhg Kinsella is a sound artist based in Dublin, who has a continued professional theme of delving in between artforms as a contemporary “sound” artist. Tadhg studied Music Performance and Composition at Trinity College Dublin and the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Dyslexic and non-binary queer Tadhg promotes/highlights accessibility and inclusivity throughout their works/projects. They are passionately involved in the Irish arts and queer scene. Striving to continue to contribute as much as possible to the community.
In electronics Tadhg has established themself as an exciting contemporary artists in both the music and visual art world. Achieving various awards including CMC’s Emerging Composer 2024-25. While also being consistently commissioned to create installation works for electronics and ensembles. Recent projects highlighting their sound and technology works include IMMA (Dublin), Regional Cultural Centre (Letterkenny), Culterim Gallery (Berlin), Machina Bristronica (Bristol), Ensemble Getögon "FYLKINGEN" (Stockholm, Sweden), and Lightmoves Festival (Screen Dance festival in Limerick).
Tadhg recently had their first commissioned solo sound art exhibition at the Complex Gallery in May 2024, where they programmed and developed 2 installations consisting of electronically programmed robot percussion work (using solenoids, arduino boards and generative AI programming). And a Reel to Reel tape loop work involving various loops of durations from 5 mins – 6 hours long.
Tadhg works with black and white photography and film. Having been on a yearlong mentorship with Mella Travis in the Darkrooms, which lead to a residency and solo exhibition here too.
Founder of Dublin Modular which is an artist run organisation primarily fusing live electronic music and visual art exhibition, workshops and platforms throughout the year in Dublin City. Incorporating an educational/learning platform for contemporary and multidisciplinary arts. Tadhg leads various workshops throughout the year to make the arts more accessible and inclusive for all interested. Dublin modular was set up with the idea of creating a space for experimental artistic expression, appreciation and networking for people living in Ireland. The aim of establishing a DIY community like Dublin Modular was to help contribute to the continuous development and growth of art culture in Dublin/Ireland.
Also involved in a project at the Royal Irish Academy of Music “Le Cheile”, as ensemble director and electronic composer. The project creates an orchestra where ability is not a limiting factor. The musicians involved have a wide variety of disabilities including down syndrome, autism and cerebral palsy. Using all kinds of cutting-edge musical technology and equipment from Ipad apps to wireless motion midi controllers to create and compose new music.
