CHOSEN FAMILY - Group Exhibtion in Pallas Studio Gallery
“Chosen Family”, I asked our queer community online to spill the tea (via voice message) about their experiences, thoughts and journey as a queer person in Ireland. Which were then included and composed as part of the soundscape surrounding the exhibition in @pallas.projects.studios . As part of a queer run collective I wanted to find a way to curate an exhibition not only involving 14 LGBTQA visual & sound artists (including myself) but also the stories and lives of our community members too.
I was really grateful & moved by the amount of voice messages I got shared in my dm’s! Every story unique, yet somehow familiar and relatable to us when listening. I can’t thank everyone enough for responding and sharing such loving, venerable and real experiences. I got voice messages sent in from people in the club, walking their dogs, in work/college, and while on the toilet… And loved listening to every single one! Fundamentally I just wanted to hear stories from queer people who were comfortable to share. In the hope it helps others on their own journey. From watching coronation street, seeing others holding hands on the street or going to a queer gallery/event.. We all have moments when something clicks and your life possibilities seem more open or even endless. For many of us this develops/involves us finding our community/chosen families to support, encourage and advise collectively. This video is a condensed taste of what the exhibition represented visually and audibly for anyone who didn’t get a chance to catch it and for Dublin Modular to now share it’s own collective nostalgic memory & experience.
